Miracles
Loosely defined, a miracle is a happening that defies the laws of form or compromises them in an extremely improbable way. The result of which has a favorable outcome for one or more people involved, and causes them to consider the existence, presence and or power of God.
Such things are rare in our lives, or so it seems. Suppose I told you that we can be a part of a miracle whenever we choose. Two thirds of the gospel of Mark involves Jesus in some healing or miracle story. Of course, we know that Jesus was crucified and then raised from the dead. He ascended into heaven and as a hymn writer has said, “He is no longer bound to distant places in Palestine.”
Should it really surprise us then that in the resurrection, Jesus has returned to the work of healing the sick, lifting up the downtrodden, and showing compassion for the poor? When we do this same work, we are partnering with Him, and we become His hands, feet, and voices in the world. We are the instruments of His miracles.
The work that Peace Lutheran Church does in supporting RamPacks, Fish, Gemma Services and several other organizations presents opportunities to participate in the miracles of God. Through this work lives are transformed.
Miracles don’t have to be the exception to the rule; they can actually be the rule. Jesus has always focused on helping people in need. When we partner with Him, we can expect to be right in the middle of a miracle.
