“ The Christian in the World”
We are just four weeks away from Palm Sunday and five weeks away from Easter. Before the month of March is over, landscapers will be treating yards with pre-emergent products; and yet, another snow storm could develop in that same time frame.
Life can sometimes be a compilation of contrasts. It can lack stability and predictability. The world around us can even reach the level of chaos. How are we to navigate through the madness of the world?
The wisdom writer says, “three things are too wonderful for me, four I do not understand: the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a ship on the sea, and the way of a man and a maiden.”(Prov. 30:18-19) I suppose we are like ships on the sea. Sometimes the water is calm. Other times it rages and foams; the waves are rocky. In the midst of it all, like a ship, we can ride it out as long as what is outside of us doesn’t get inside of us. The very thing a ship rides on, the thing that it floats on can also destroy it. If the water gets inside the ship it will sink it.
There is so much we can’t control in life like what goes on outside of us. We do however have some control over what goes on inside of us. We can feed our minds with healthy thoughts; we can feed our bodies with healthy foods; and we can feed our spirits with the truth, wisdom, and love of God. Still in Lent and approaching Easter, let us make good use of this time to feed ourselves well.
